Using Life-Like Replicas

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but nothing beats hands on learning with life-size replicas. Museums and nature centres have long used touch tables and touch tanks for visual and tactile exploring. Each Bald Eagle Feather replica is handcrafted from thin Baltic birch plywood, sanded to taper the feather edges. The feather is cut and finished to resemble one of the 14 secondary wing feathers.

The booklet hilights key points about Bald Eagle feathers, how they are used, what they represent and how they can be used as an instrument to promote peace and understanding. Learning about eagle feathers opens many doors to study peace, honour, conservation, symbols etc.

Feather: approximately 11-3/4" L (30cmL) and 1/16" thick (2mm)

The feather is made from sanded and tapered Baltic birch plywood. Although it is thin, plywood is a very strong, laminated wood which can withstand rough handling. Of course the varnished surface of this feather replica is not immune to scratches and other damage if not handled with care. The risk of actually breaking the feather is low unless it is done with intent.
